KU to honor Ellis, Rooks, Russell and Trego high school students at Hays

LAWRENCE Ü Students from ten Kansas high schools will be honored Tuesday, Oct. 4, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Ellis, Rooks, Russell and Trego counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at Hays High School, 2300 E. 13th, Hays.

Honorees' names are below.

Barbara Ballard, associate vice chancellor for student affairs, will speak. Alumni Association representative Bryan Greve, director of Adams Alumni Center services and Jayhawk Society membership, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $8 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Fred and Shiela Brening, Hays, are site and Ellis County coordinators. Tom and Cassie Nuckols, Plainville, are coordinators for Rooks County; Nancy Lane, Russell, is the Russell County coordinator; and Jim and Kathy Cleland, WaKeeney, are coordinators for Trego County.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
