Swedish conductor to direct 2 KU voice ensembles in concert on Saturday

LAWRENCE -- Guest conductor Robert Sund will direct two University of Kansas choral ensembles at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22 in the Bales Recital Hall at the Lied Center. Admission is free.

Sund will conduct the KU Chamber Choir and Collegium Musicum, two of KU's most accomplished voice ensembles. The event marks their season debut.

He was named Conductor of the Year in 1993 by the Association of Swedish Choirmasters. For the past 17 years he has been professor of choral studies at the Academy of Music in Stockholm. There, he conducts the internationally renowned male choir Orphei Drangar.

Sund's career as a conductor, adjudicator, composer, arranger, and educator has earned him worldwide acclaim. He has conducted the radio choirs in Stockholm and Vienna, the Ericson Chamber Choir, the Adolf Fredriks Bach Choir, the Coro Nacional in Cuba, the Grupo de Canto Coral in Buenos Aires, and the World Youth Choir. He has lectured in Scandinavia, Germany, Austria, England, the USA, Venezuela, Argentina, and New Zealand. His compositions and arrangements are performed around the globe.
