LAWRENCE -- Australian clarinetist Roslyn Dunlop, who specializes in the avant-garde clarinet literature, especially music involving electronics, will be featured in a free concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27 in Swarthout Recital Hall.
The concert is part of the University of Kansas Department of Music and Dance Visiting Artist Series.
Dunlop is known as a keen promoter and performer of works by Australian composers. She has performed with leading Australian New Music Ensembles Elision, The Seymour Group, The Sydney Dance Company, (in the Alpha Centauri ensemble), Voiceworks and Symeron. She currently is a member of Touchbass.
For her KU concert, Dunlop will perform "25 Measures" by Elna Kats Chemin, for B-flat clarinet; "Trio" by Don Banks, for bass clarinet and tape; "NRG" by Gerard Brophy, for bass clarinet; "Easy Winners" by Barney Childs, for E-flat clarinet; and "Frenzy, Folly, Fire and Joy" by Graham Hair, for B-flat clarinet.
Dunlop has performed in many festivals including the Adelaide festival, The Sydney Spring Festival, the Festival of Sydney and The New Directions Festival. Dunlop has given a presentation of Australian compositions at the International Clarinet Congress in New Orleans. Dunlop records nationally for ABC and 2MBSFM radio and has released two solo CD's.
