KU to honor Anderson, Franklin county high school students at Ottawa

LAWRENCE -- Students from seven Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Sept. 18, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Anderson and Franklin counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at Ottawa High School, 11th and Ash.

Honorees' names are below.

Carl Locke, dean of the School of Engineering, will speak. Alumni Association representative Carolyn Barnes, director of the Kansas Honors Program, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $7 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Charlie and Margy Porter, Ottawa, are the site and Franklin County coordinators. Terry Solander, Garnett, is the coordinator for Anderson County.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
