Conference to address how Cold War continues to affect modern-day life

LAWRENCE -- A conference at Johnson County Community College that is co-sponsored by programs at the University of Kansas will offer insight into the post-Cold War world.

"The Unfinished Business of the Cold War," which takes place from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 13, will address the continuing legacy of Cold War issues on the arts, education, domestic and international policy, economics, and security issues of today. Registration is required.

The conference features speakers Chalmers Johnson, renowned specialist on East Asia and president of the Japan Policy Research Institute; Walter Bgoya, Tanzanian diplomat, publisher and educator; Wergner Baer, Jorge Lemann professor of economics at the University of Illinois; Jacob Kipp, senior analyst for Russia/East Europe for the U.S. Foreign Military Studies Office; and Dominique Decherf, consulat general de France. Other speakers include KU faculty and guests from the University of Missouri and Connecticut College.

The KU African Resource Center; the centers for East Asian, European, Indigenous Nations, Latin American, and Russian and East European studies; the KU Center for Business Education and Research; the Hall Center for the Humanities; and Johnson County Community College sponsor the conference. Johnson County Community College is located at 12345 College Blvd. in Overland Park.
