Life story of Buddy Holly to be portrayed April 19 at Lied Center

LAWRENCE -- The Lied Center of Kansas Broadway & Beyond Series and Delta Dental present "Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 19.

This musical re-creates Buddy Holly's story from his days singing country music in Lubbock, Texas, to his debut with The Crickets, where he was the first white act at Harlem's Apollo Theatre. The tale of this rock legend ends with a rollicking re-creation of his last concert with Ritchie Valens, the Big Bopper and Dion at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa, on Feb. 2, 1959, the night the music died.

"Buddy" is produced by Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul, Minn.
