LAWRENCE -- Starting school as a new graduate student can be daunting. To smooth the way for new and returning graduate students, the University of Kansas will host an information fair and reception Friday, Aug. 23.
"A graduate student's academic load is challenging," said Diana Carlin, dean of the Graduate School and International Programs. "In addition to course work, teaching and research duties, many students have family responsibilities or travel halfway around the world to be part of the KU experience. The information fair and reception will help them learn about key resources available to them as well as build an important support network of colleagues."
The information fair will be from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Kansas Union ballroom. A variety of campus organizations, services and offices will host tables and distribute information. The fair is sponsored by the KU Graduate and Professional Association, Graduate School, the Alumni Association and Student Senate
A reception at Adams Alumni Center, 1266 Oread, will follow until 8 p.m. and will feature cocktails and appetizers. KU Chancellor Robert Hemenway, Carlin and Lawrence Mayor Sue Hack will address the group. All alumni of the graduate school living in the Lawrence area are invited to attend the reception.
