KU to honor McPherson, Marion and Rice county high school seniors

LAWRENCE -- Students from 15 Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Sept. 11, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Marion, McPherson and Rice counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at the Holiday Manor Convention Center, 2211 E. Kansas, McPherson.

Honorees are listed below.

Jack Fincham, dean of the School of Pharmacy, will speak. Alumni Association representative Kirk Cerny, senior vice president for membership services, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $11.50 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Mary Kornhaus, McPherson, is the site coordinator. Jim Christensen and Martin Tice, Marion, are coordinators for Marion County. Ken and Barbara Cole, McPherson, are coordinators for McPherson County, and Roger Tobias, Lyons, is the Rice County coordinator.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 82,874 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
