LAWRENCE -- Lisa Pinamonti, interim director of admissions and scholarships at the University of Kansas since April, will continue in that role for an indefinite period of time, Senior Vice Provost Kathleen McCluskey-Fawcett announced today.
A nationwide search for a permanent director ended this week with no one being named to the position.
"We had a strong pool of candidates and we extended an offer to an excellent finalist, but at the last moment he accepted a promotion at his current university," said McCluskey-Fawcett. "Another finalist accepted the top admissions position at a Big Ten university and withdrew from consideration. Clearly, there is a very competitive national marketplace for people with the skills needed to manage such an important university function."
McCluskey-Fawcett said it was too early to tell when the search would resume.
"We need to make sure we find the right person for the job, and that will take some time," she said. "Lisa Pinamonti has done a very good job as interim, and we're fortunate she's able to continue in that role."
Pinamonti, associate director of admissions and scholarships since 2000, stepped into the director role after Alan Cerveny left to become dean of admissions at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Pinamonti, a KU graduate, joined the university in 1999 as assistant director after working in admissions offices at Wichita State University and Pittsburg State University.
McCluskey-Fawcett expressed appreciation to Richard Morrell, university registrar, who chaired the search committee.
"He and the committee did everything we asked of them, and more," she said. "It's disappointing to have to restart the process, but KU is an attractive institution, and I'm confident we'll again attract a strong pool from which to choose."
