SILVER LAKE -- Five chief executive officers of the six Kansas Board of Regents universities -- along with some of the universities' famous mascots -- will visit Silver Lake Elementary School on Wednesday, Feb. 13, to deliver a valentine to students and emphasize the importance of state funding for all levels of education in Kansas.
The chief executives and mascots will visit individual classrooms and then gather for a joint session with the media. The leaders will sign and present a large valentine stating that "Education Is the Heart of Kansas" to the school.
The media are encouraged to attend the classroom visits and the library gathering. There are NO restrictions on video and photography in the classrooms.
WHEN: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13. Please gather at main entrance for classroom visits. Joint press availability will occur at 11 a.m. in the school library.
WHERE: Silver Lake Elementary School, Silver Lake, 14 miles northwest of Topeka. To reach Silver Lake Elementary School, coming from Topeka, continue into town on U.S. 24. At East Lake Street, turn right and proceed past the high school to Rice Road. At Rice Road, turn left. The school is on the right. Vehicles may park in front. Please enter through main entrance.

Robert Hemenway, chancellor of the University of Kansas. He will visit a first-grade class.
Jon Wefald, president of Kansas State University. He will visit a third-grade class.
Kay Schallenkamp, president of Emporia State University. She will visit a third-grade class.
Edward H. Hammond, president of Fort Hays State University. He will visit a fourth-grade class.
Tom W. Bryant, president of Pittsburg State University. He will visit a fourth-grade class.
Note: Wichita State University President Donald L. Beggs is unable to attend.
