KU to honor Barton, Rush County high school seniors at Great Bend Feb. 27

LAWRENCE -- Students from six Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Feb. 27, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Barton and Rush counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6 p.m. dinner program at the Golden Belt Country Club, 24th and Frey, Great Bend.

Honorees' names are below.

Leonard Krishtalka, director of the KU Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Research Center, will speak. Alumni Association representative Carolyn Barnes, director of the Kansas Honors Program, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $10 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Mary King, Great Bend, is the site coordinator. Perry and Krista Smith, Great Bend, are coordinators for Barton County, and Mary Barrows, LaCrosse, is the Rush County coordinator.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
