The Walter S. Sutton Ethics Lecture Series is produced by the KU International Center for Ethics in Business, a joint effort of the business school and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The lecture series is made possible by a gift from Betsey G. Sutton in memory of her husband, Walter, to commemorate his lifelong dedication to ethical business practices.

Walter S. Sutton, an Independence native, was a 1939 graduate of the KU School of Business. He joined the accounting firm then known as Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., becoming managing partner of its Kansas City and Los Angeles offices. He also served on the Peat Marwick executive committee from 1954 to 1975. Until his death in 1985, he worked actively with such civic, religious and professional organizations as the Western Missouri Episcopal Diocese, the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and the American Institute of CPAs.

The KU International Center for Ethics in Business works to promote individual and corporate integrity in both domestic and international business through research, service and education in ethical principles and behavior. Richard T. DeGeorge, distinguished professor of philosophy, and H. Joseph Reitz, Koch Industries faculty fellow in business, are center co-directors.
