KU to honor Marshall, Washington county high school seniors at Washington

LAWRENCE -- Students from nine Kansas high schools will be honored Thursday, March 14, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Marshall and Washington counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at the First National Bank community room, 101 C St., Washington.

Honorees are listed below.

Jerry Bailey, director of the Institute for Educational Research and Public Service and associate professor of teaching and leadership, will speak. Alumni Association representative Jennifer Mueller, director of student programs, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $8.50 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Larry Stoppel, Washington, is the site and Washington County coordinator. Zita and Kenneth Duensing, Blue Rapids, are the coordinators for Marshall County.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
