KU to honor Clark, Comanche, Ford, Gray, Hodgeman, Kiowa, Meade and Ness county high school seniors at Dodge City

LAWRENCE -- Students from 18 Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Feb. 20, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Clark, Comanche, Ford, Gray, Hodgeman, Kiowa, Meade and Ness counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at the Silver Spur Convention Center, 1510 W. Wyatt Earp, Dodge City.

Honorees' names are listed below.

Rick Musser, Clyde Reed teaching professor of journalism, will speak. Alumni Association representative Bryan Greve, director of Adams Alumni Center services and Jayhawk Society membership, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $11 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Melaney Vogel, Dodge City, is the site and Ford County coordinator. Other coordinators are Robert and Sally McNickle, Ashland, for Clark County; Liz Ballard, Haviland, for Comanche and Kiowa counties; Philip and Patricia Ridenour, Cimarron, for Gray County; Mary Joanne Sorem, Jetmore, for Hodgeman County; Lynn Chance, Fowler, for Meade County; and Vera Schniepp, Ness City, for Ness County.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
