KU to honor Linn, Miami county high school students at LaCygne

LAWRENCE -- Students from six Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Feb. 6, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Linn and Miami counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at Prairie View High School, 13731 Highway 152, LaCygne.

Honorees' names are listed below.

Victor Bailey, professor of history and director of the Hall Center for the Humanities, will speak. Alumni Association representative Fred Williams, president and CEO of the Kansas Alumni Association, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $7 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Richard and Janice Wurtz, Mound City, are the site and Linn County coordinators. Robert Nicholson, Paola, is the coordinator for Miami County.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
