KU saxophone student Jeff Timmons wins T. Gordon Parks competition

LAWRENCE - Jeff Timmons, a University of Kansas senior in saxophone performance from Shawnee, has won the 33rd annual T. Gordon Parks Memorial Concerto Competition for Woodwinds and Brass, sponsored by the Arapahoe Philharmonic Orchestra of Denver.

Timmons receives a cash award and the opportunity to perform "Concertino de Camera" by Jacques Ibert with the Arapahoe Philharmonic Orchestra on March 22.

The competition includes college undergraduate and graduate students from Colorado and five surrounding states.

Timmons is a student of Vince Gnojek, professor of saxophone in the Department of Music and Dance. Last spring, Down Beat magazine named Timmons best classical soloist for his performance on the alto saxophone.
