KU's Engineering Student Council launches Web site for Expo 2002

LAWRENCE -- Engineering Expo, which takes place Feb. 22, is an annual open house for students and teachers across the state and the Kansas City area that showcases the work of engineering and computer science students at the University of Kansas.

A new Web site gives visitors a comprehensive look at Engineering Expo 2002 activities and information, organizers said. Engineering Expo 2002 is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome.

"The detailed schedule and online registration are probably the most useful features of the site," said Marcus Dunavan, Engineering Student Council president and graduate student in aerospace engineering from Topeka. The Web site has online registration for the Expo and for the eight high school design contests.

"This is much more convenient than registration by mail and saves people a lot of time," Dunavan said.

Contest descriptions and rules can be found at the site, along with frequently asked questions. Registration for contests closes Feb. 8.

Browsers also will find information about the Expo keynote speaker, retired Rear Adm. Gene Kendall, U.S. Navy, a KU engineering alumnus. The site includes campus and area maps, Expo contact information and lots of other Web extras.

In the past, about 500 students from across the state have descended on the KU campus to take part in the event, which involves nearly every engineering student organization and all School of Engineering departments.

"Hundreds of KU engineering students work on Expo," Dunavan said. "Expo is a great opportunity to learn about the challenging field of engineering."
