MEDIA ADVISORY: KU presidential historian to appear on PBS, MSNBC programs

LAWRENCE -- Presidential historian Richard Norton Smith will discuss the State of the Union address in two television appearances Tuesday, Jan. 29.

Smith, director of the Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas, will join historians Doris Kearns Goodwin, Michael Beschloss and Roger Wilkens in a 10- to 12-minute interview on public television's "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer." The program is aired locally at 6 p.m on KTWU Channel 11 in Topeka and KCPT Channel 19 in the Kansas City area.

News anchor Brian Williams also will interview Smith on the MSNBC cable network from 7 to 8 p.m. (CST).
