KU to honor Allen, Bourbon county high school students at Fort Scott

LAWRENCE -- Students from five Kansas high schools will be honored Monday, Feb. 11, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Allen and Bourbon counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at Fort Scott High School, 1005 S. Main, Fort Scott.

Honorees' names are listed below.

Thomas Beisecker, associate professor of communication studies, will speak. Alumni Association representative Donna Neuner, director of membership services, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $6.50 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Gary and Sally Cullor, Fort Scott, are the site coordinators. James and Carol Immel, Iola, are the coordinators for Allen County, and Susy Hammons, Pittsburg, is the Bourbon County coordinator.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
