KU announces spring 2002 honor roll students

LAWRENCE -- More than 4,100 University of Kansas undergraduates representing 99 of Kansas' 105 counties were named to KU's honor roll during the spring 2002 semester.

The students are from KU's Lawrence campus and the schools of Allied Health and Nursing at the Kansas City, Kan., campus.

KU Chancellor Robert Hemenway announced the honor roll students, saying: "I take pride in announcing our students whose commitment to scholarship and academic excellence has earned them honor roll distinction."

The honor roll comprises undergraduates who meet requirements in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and in the schools of Allied Health, Architecture and Urban Design, Business, Education, Engineering, Fine Arts and Nursing and the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications. The School of Social Welfare does not compile an honor roll.

Honor roll criteria vary among the academic units of the university. Some schools honor the top 10 percent of students enrolled, some establish a minimum grade-point average and others raise the minimum for each year students are in school. Students must complete a minimum number of credit hours to be considered for the honor roll.

About 71 percent of KU's 28,180 students are undergraduates. The average ACT score for entering first-year students in fall 2001 was 24.5, more than two points above the national average. The 2001-2002 Freshmen ACT Class Profile lists 57 percent of KU's entering first-year students graduating in the top quarter of their high school classes.

The names of area students honored, their school or department, their parents' or guardians' names and their home addresses are listed online at www.ur.ku.edu/News/02N/JulyNews/July1/directory.html. For students enrolled in the School of Allied Health, a level in school is not always given, but the level is listed for those in other schools.

Editors: There are no students in this list from the following Kansas counties: Chautauqua, Cheyenne, Clark, Haskell, Scott and Stanton.

Student names are presented in the following format:
