Annual Jayhawk Jog event to benefit Audio-Reader; will feature 5K dog walk

LAWRENCE -- The annual Jayhawk Jog, slated for Saturday, Aug. 3, at Shawnee Mission Park in Shawnee, will feature 5K and 10K runs, a 5K walk and a free Tot Trot for ages 3 through 10 with all proceeds to benefit Audio-Reader, the University of Kansas' radio reading service for the blind and print-disabled.

Baby Jay and Kansas City Knights coach and former KU basketball player Kevin Pritchard will be on hand to greet the runners and walkers at the Jog, which is sponsored by the Kansas City chapter of the KU Alumni Association.

Audio-Reader is a public service offered by KU that provides live and recorded broadcasts of newspapers, magazines, current books and other printed materials. Audio-Reader gives this service free of charge to thousands of people in Kansas and western Missouri.

"We are so grateful to have been chosen by the KU Alumni Association to be the beneficiary of the Jayhawk Jog this year," said Janet Campbell, director of Audio-Reader. "We hope they have a wonderful turnout."

The link to Audio-Reader has led to a unique feature at this year's Jayhawk Jog. Visually handicapped individuals and their service dog guides have been invited to participate in the 5K walk.

"I believe that the dog guide walk is a first for the Kansas City area," said Diana Frederick, development director of Audio-Reader. "It helps to illustrate what Audio-Reader is all about."

Registration for the Jog is ongoing. Anyone interested in more information about the Jayhawk Jog can call Kelly Kidwell at (800) 584-2957 or visit online at www.kualumni.org. For more information about Audio-Reader and its services call (800) 772-8898 or visit reader.ku.edu.
