LAWRENCE -- Prasad Gogineni, Deane E. Ackers distinguished professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of Kansas, will be on the National Public Radio show "Public Interest" from noon to 1 p.m. tomorrow.
Gogineni has conducted extensive research on the melting of the Greenland and Antarctica ice sheets. He will lend his expertise to the discussion, which is titled "Glaciers, Icebergs and Antarctica." The show, which is hosted by Kojo Nnamdi, will take an in-depth look at Antarctica's icebergs and glaciers and the secrets they hold about the Earth's past and future.
The hourlong program also will feature Julie Palais, project manager of the Antarctic glaciology program with the National Science Foundation Office of Polar Programs.
Palais and Gogineni are working together on the PRISM (Polar Radar for Ice Sheet Measurements) project, which aims to measure ice thickness and determine bedrock conditions below the ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica. The project will develop and deploy mobile radar sensors in the polar regions to collect and analyze real-time data about interactions between ice sheets, oceans and the atmosphere.
