'Right Between the Ears' brings comedy broadcast to Kansas City

LAWRENCE -- "Right Between the Ears," the award-winning comedy show (formerly known as "The Imagination Workshop") produced by Kansas Public Radio, serves up the 2001-02 season finale at Kansas City's American Heartland Theatre at 5 and 8 p.m. Saturday, June 29. Kansas Public Radio is based at the University of Kansas.

Although still in preparation at press time, the season finale likely will include spoofs of President George W. Bush (who is expanding the war on terrorism to include people who bring more than 13 items into the express lane); the newest "Star Wars" movie (can even George Lucas explain the complicated plot?); the usual glut of summer movies (Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in "Terminocchio," combining a big-budget action spectacular with a time-honored Disney favorite); plus the continuing troubles at Enron Corp. and TV's "Pet Psychic." Also planned are episodes from such audience favorites as "Fishing with Dwayne," "Incompetents Hospital" and "The Legion of Stupid Heroes."

"Right Between the Ears" twice has won Best Comedy Show honors at the New York Festivals, and it recently snagged two Communicator Awards for Best Writing/Humor and for Best Live Broadcast/Radio. During July and August, an episode from the series will be featured as part of the in-flight entertainment on Delta Air Lines flights nationwide. Kansas Public Radio's Darrell Brogdon produces the series.
