Engineering professor receives Fulbright scholar award

LAWRENCE -- A University of Kansas professor has been selected to receive a Fulbright scholar award for the 2002-2003 academic year.

Prasad Gogineni, Deane E. Ackers distinguished professor of electrical engineering and computer science, was commended for his impressive accomplishments in the field of radar systems and remote sensing. As part of his Fulbright Award, he will conduct research at the University of Tasmania Antarctic Cooperative Research Center in Hobart, Tasmania. Gogineni will work with Dr. Victoria Lytle at the center. The research involves some parts of the Information Technology Research project, an $8.7 million National Science Foundation and NASA research project led by Gogineni, and a new project, funded by NASA, to develop a radar to measure thickness of snow over sea ice. Results from Gogineni's research have helped provide a clearer picture of global climate change.

Gogineni plans to go to Australia at the end of July and return to Lawrence in mid-December. He will be on sabbatical for the duration of the academic year and plans to spend the remaining time in Lawrence conducting research related to the Information Technology Research project.
