KU to honor high school seniors at Logan

LAWRENCE -- Students from 11 Kansas high schools will be honored Monday, March 25, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Graham, Norton, Osborne, Phillips and Smith counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 7 p.m. dinner program at the Dane G. Hansen Memorial Plaza community room, 110 W. Main St., Logan. Artwork from top art students at local high schools will be on display before the dinner.

Honorees are listed below.

Stephen McAllister, dean of the School of Law, will speak. Alumni Association representative Carolyn Barnes, director of the Kansas Honors Program, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $8 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Polly Bales and Carol Bales, both of Logan, are the site coordinators. Dave Rankin, Phillipsburg, is the coordinator for Graham and Phillips counties. Mel and Jo Rice, Norton, are the Norton County coordinators and Philip Hardman, Osborne, is the coordinator for Osborne County.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
