KU to honor high school seniors at Liberal

LAWRENCE -- Students from 10 Kansas high schools will be honored Tuesday, April 2, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Grant, Haskell, Morton, Seward, Stanton and Stevens counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 7 p.m. dinner program at the Seward County Community College Student Union, second floor, 1801 N. Kansas, Liberal.

Honorees are listed below.

Bruce Twarog, professor of physics and astronomy, will speak. Alumni Association representative Kelly Kidwell, assistant director of chapter and constituent programs, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $9 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Al and Donna Shank, Liberal, are the site, Morton and Seward County coordinators. Jeff Menzie, Ulysses, is the coordinator for Grant and Stanton counties. Jacqueline Hall, Sublette, is the Haskell County coordinator, and Erick and Debbie Nordling, Hugoton, are the coordinators for Stevens County.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
