KU names committee to start national search for new admissions director

LAWRENCE -- A committee of nine faculty, staff and administrators at the University of Kansas has been appointed to search for a new director of admissions and scholarships.

"The university has enjoyed a remarkable five years of recruitment success," said Interim Associate Provost James Carothers. "Our freshman composite ACT scores have climbed steadily to 24.5, well above the national average. This fall KU enrolled not only the largest freshman class in Kansas but also more Kansas students than any other university in the state. We've enrolled three consecutive classes of 100-plus National Merit scholars, ranking us in the top 10 nationally.

"We seek a new director who will help us continue to recruit outstanding and diverse students to KU."

Members of the search committee are Richard Morrell, university registrar, chair; Kevin Boatright, associate executive vice chancellor for university relations; Dan Consolver, director of academic technology services; Tammara Durham, associate director of freshman-sophomore advising; Brenda Maigaard, director of student financial aid; Meringuez Najafizadeh, associate professor of sociology; Robert Page, director of multicultural affairs; Glenn Quick, associate director of admissions and scholarships; and Gail Sherron, associate director of admissions and scholarships.

KU plans to identify a permanent director by the beginning of the fall semester. Lisa Pinamonti will serve as interim director of admissions and scholarships until then. She was named to the post when Alan Cerveny announced he would leave April 1 to become dean of admissions at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
