LAWRENCE -- Construction in the underground tunnels of the University of Kansas' Lawrence campus will temporarily interrupt data communications at several libraries in April and block remote access to library electronic resources.
KU's Networking and Telecommunication Services is carrying out the construction, which is expected to disrupt service for Watson, Anschutz and Spencer Research libraries.
Service interruptions at Watson Library will be from 8 p.m. Friday, April 5, until 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6. Because Watson is closed during those hours, library users will not be affected.
Library servers will be down from 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, until 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13. During that time, remote access to the KU Libraries' telecommunications will not be possible.
The libraries' Web site, online catalog and other electronic resources will be down until library servers are restored Saturday morning.
The service interruption on April 12 and 13 will affect the Anschutz and Spencer Research libraries as well. Because Anschutz Library is closed during the downtime, only those trying to use the library's remote system will be affected.
In Spencer, service is scheduled to be down until 5 p.m. Saturday, April 13. The library is scheduled to be open from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday to provide essential library services; however, there will be no access to electronic resources within the library during that time.
