KU to honor high school seniors at Belleville

LAWRENCE -- Students from 13 Kansas high schools will be honored Monday, April 8, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Cloud, Jewell, Mitchell and Republic counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at the Harvester Restaurant, 1309 18th St., Belleville.

Honorees are listed below.

Webb Hecker, associate dean for academic affairs and professor of law, will speak. Alumni Association representative Carolyn Barnes, director of Kansas honors programs, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $9 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Marilyn Haase, Belleville, is the site and Republic County coordinator. Other county coordinators are Michele Heidrick, Beloit, for Mitchell County; Kenneth Palmquist and Nicole Palmquist, both of Concordia, for Cloud County; and Cathy Dauner, Mankato, for Jewell County.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
