KU to honor high school seniors at Medicine Lodge

LAWRENCE -- Students from nine Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, April 10, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Barber, Harper, Kingman and Pratt counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 7 p.m. dinner program at the First Christian Church, 300 S. Main, Medicine Lodge.

Honorees are listed below.

William Crowe, Spencer librarian for the Kenneth Spencer Research Library, will speak. Alumni Association representative Sheila Murphy Immel, senior vice president for membership development, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $10 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Robert Slinkard, Medicine Lodge, is the site and Barber County coordinator. Other county coordinators are Diana Bonham, Anthony, for Harper County; Cindy Keller and Marcia Suiter, both of Pratt, for Pratt County; Chuck Holcomb, Cunningham, Debra Meisenheimer, Kingman, and Kathleen Whitmer, Zenda, for Kingman County.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
