Fans invited to watch Jayhawks game on big screen at Memorial Stadium

LAWRENCE -- For students and fans who cannot be in Atlanta to cheer on the Kansas Jayhawks in their NCAA semifinal showdown with Maryland, the next best place to be Saturday night will be Memorial Stadium.

KU fans are invited to watch the game against the Maryland Terrapins on the big videoboard screen at the stadium on the University of Kansas campus and stay for a post-game celebration. Admission and parking are free.

In addition to the game, the videoboard will show the post-game team press conferences via satellite. The Baby Jay mascot and Crimson Girls along with a pep band will welcome fans to the family-friendly community celebration of the men's basketball team's success.

In addition to the game and post-game press conference, KU basketball highlights and other videos will be shown.

Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. The game will begin at 7:47 p.m. local time. Fans may enter the stadium through the south entrances and sit on the stadium's west side. Concession stands and restrooms will be open on the west side.

No alcohol is allowed on campus. There will be no vehicle access to central campus during and after the game. A map of the street closures is available online. There also will be enhanced law enforcement on campus.

The winners of Saturday's semifinal games will play for the NCAA national championship Monday. If KU defeats Maryland and plays for the title, fans will be invited to watch the game at the stadium. The basketball team, win or lose, will not return to Lawrence Saturday. A welcome-home event will take place at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the stadium. Details will be announced later.

The stadium event is sponsored by the University of Kansas.
