School of Education to showcase innovations, hear teacher panel March 6

Editor's note: Teacher panelists are from the following school districts: 229, 384, 450 and 497.

LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas School of Education will be host to the second annual Innovation Celebration from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, in Joseph R. Pearson Hall.

The public event is designed to showcase the achievements of the schoolØs faculty, research staff and student teaching interns. Visitors are encouraged to view the 20 research- and education-related displays and learn about recent developments in education.

A new feature this year will be a panel discussion by award-winning teachers about emerging innovations in education from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Joseph R. Pearson Auditorium, room 150. The panel speakers will include:

 • Linda Brecheisen-Pribyl, Blue Valley Northwest High School; Teacher of the Year 1999 for USD 229 and recently earned National Board certification.

 • Jan Dicker, Grant Elementary School in Lawrence; Kansas Teacher of the Year 2001 finalist.

 • April Hawkins, Piper Middle School, Kansas City, Kan.; Jayhawk Educator of the Year 2001.

 • Mark Jarboe, Shawnee Heights High School in Tecumseh; Teacher of the Year 2000 for USD 450.

 • Jeff McAdoo, Quail Run Elementary School in Lawrence; recipient of a Milken National Award for outstanding teaching from the Milken Family Foundation and Teacher of the Year 2000 for USD 497.

 • Trio -- exceptional opportunities for disadvantaged students
 • Teacher portfolio displays -- examples of student work
 • J.C. Harmon High Professional Development School
 • Central Junior High Professional Development School
 • New Stanley Elementary Professional Development School
 • South Park Elementary Professional Development School
 • Cordley Elementary Professional Development School

Parking for the event will be available east of Joseph R. Pearson Hall in Lot 55 (the entry to this lot is on Maine Street, behind Memorial Stadium). The event is free and open to the public.
