LAWRENCE -- More than 40 University of Kansas students were recently initiated into Phi Alpha Theta, a national history honor society.
Keynote speaker Elizabeth MacGonagle, assistant professor of history, spoke to initiates about her research experiences using oral sources in African history. W. Stitt Robinson, professor emeritus of history and former national president of Phi Alpha Theta, also attended as an honored guest.
Undergraduate students were invited to join if they had completed four history courses with a grade-point average of at least 3.1 and had a cumulative GPA or 3.0 or higher.
Phi Alpha Theta seeks to promote the study of history by encouraging research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. Both the KU and national chapters offer members the opportunity to present historical research at conventions and professional conferences.
Students are listed on line by county and by state.
