WHAT: Richard Norton Smith, director of the Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas, will be among the speakers for the National Press Club's roast of C-SPAN CEO Brian Lamb in Washington D.C.
Lamb will receive the press club's top honor, the Fourth Estate Award, given annually to an individual who has achieved distinction for a lifetime of contributions to American journalism.
WHEN: The black-tie roast will be televised nationally on C-SPAN at 7 p.m. Central time on Saturday, Nov. 23. C-SPAN can be viewed locally on cable channel 35.
Lamb, who spoke at KU Sept. 17 as the inaugural speaker for the Dole Forum lecture series, has been friends with Smith since 1993, when Smith appeared on "Booknotes" to discuss his biography of George Washington. In the course of their conversation, Smith revealed that he had visited every presidential gravesite, prompting Lamb to repeat the feat for himself and paving the way for their joint book, "Who's Buried in Grant's Tomb?" published in 1999.
