LAWRENCE -- When people like Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough speak, people listen. And now, people will be listening to Kansas Public Radio to hear what those speakers, and many others, will say.
Kansas Public Radio has been named the official media sponsor of the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics Presidential Lecture Series, to be held on three consecutive Sunday evenings starting Nov. 3.
Like all Dole Institute events, the lectures are free and are open to the public, but each requires tickets. To reserve tickets, call the Lied Center at (785) 864-2787.
"The Dole Institute may be of KU, but it exists for Kansans everywhere. So does KANU," said Richard Norton Smith, director of the Dole Institute of Politics. "I can't imagine a better partner in presenting America's leading presidential historians or co-sponsoring other events that are sure to attract national attention."
On Nov. 3, Edmund Morris, Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer of Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan, will speak. Michael Beschloss, biographer of Franklin Roosevelt, Harry S Truman, Dwight Eisenhower and Lyndon Johnson, will speak on Nov. 10. And Nov. 17, the Dole Institute will present two-time Pulitzer Prize winner David McCullough.
"Public service is an important mission for KU and for Kansas Public Radio," said Janet Murguia, executive vice chancellor for university relations. "Kansas Public Radio helps bring the university to people throughout the state -- at home, on the road and on the Web. Broadcasting the Dole Institute's Presidential Lecture Series is a great example of our mission at work."
A book signing will follow each lecture.
Kansas Public Radio at the University of Kansas includes KANU, Lawrence, at 91.5-FM; KANH 89.7-FM in Emporia; 89.7-FM in Atchison; and on the Web at kanu.ku. edu. The lecture series is sponsored by Douglas County Bank, Kansas Public Radio and the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics.
