KU names 16 freshmen as Chancellors Club Scholars for 2002-2003

LAWRENCE -- Sixteen University of Kansas freshmen -- eight from Kansas high schools and eight from out of state -- have received top honors as The Chancellors Club Scholars for 2002-2003.

The Chancellors Club, the major-donor organization at the Kansas University Endowment Association, finances the renewable scholarships, which recognize National Merit finalists who have outstanding high school records. The Chancellors Club has now awarded the scholarships to 196 students since 1979.

Kansas recipients for 2002-2003 are Trey Allen, Wichita; Daniel Marc Dykstra, Wichita; Annie Ingham, Overland Park; Katie Lohrenz, Wichita; Craig Paschang, Stilwell; Matthew B. Terrill, Overland Park; Sam Wilder, Overland Park; and Richard Kenneth Yang, Overland Park.

Out-of-state recipients are Sarah L. Boatright, Lee's Summit, Mo.; Emily Susanna Brooks, Kansas City, Mo.; Hilary Compton, Camdenton, Mo.; Sarah Gibbs, Waconia, Minn.; John Higgins, La Porte, Ind.; Michael Minea, Colleyville, Texas; Jenny Rizzo, Kansas City, Mo; and Jacqueline Victor, Austin, Texas

From KANSAS

Trey Allen of Wichita, son of Samuel Allen II, graduated from Wichita East High School and is majoring in atmospheric science.

Daniel Marc Dykstra of Wichita, son of Kenneth and Carol Dykstra, graduated from Andover Central High School. He will major in pre-law and international studies.

Annie Ingham of Overland Park, daughter of Maureen and Steve Ingham, graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School. She will major in economics and international studies and also is interested in foreign language, particularly German.

Katie Lohrenz of Wichita, daughter of Tom and Lori Lohrenz, graduated from Wichita East High School. She has not yet declared a major.

Craig Paschang of Stilwell, son of Steven and Lisa Paschang, graduated from Blue Valley High School. His major is architectural engineering.

Matthew B. Terrill of Overland Park, son of William B. and Susan G. Terrill, graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School. He will major in civil engineering and also is interested in trumpet performance.

Sam Wilder of Overland Park, son of Harris and Harlen Wilder, graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School. He will major in political science.

Richard Kenneth Yang of Overland Park, son of K.P. and Tammy Yang, graduated from Blue Valley Northwest High School. He plans to major in microbiology and to fulfill requirements for medical school.

From INDIANA

John Higgins of La Porte, son of Brian and Anne Higgins, graduated from La Lumiere School. His major is computer science.

From MISSOURI

Sarah L. Boatright of Lee's Summit, daughter of Ira and Susanne Boatright, graduated from Lee's Summit High School. She plans to double major in linguistics and English.

Emily Susanna Brooks of Kansas City, daughter of Jerry and Jane Williams, graduated from Lee's Summit High School. She will major in Spanish and international studies.

Hilary Compton of Camdenton, daughter of Wayne and Kathleen Compton, graduated from Camdenton High School. Her major is chemistry.

Jenny Rizzo of Kansas City, daughter of Tony and Margaret Rizzo, graduated from Lincoln College Preparatory Academy. She will major in saxophone performance.

From MINNESOTA

Sarah Gibbs of Waconia, daughter of Mark and Jean Gibbs, graduated from Waconia High School. She plans to major in English.

From TEXAS

Michael Minea of Colleyville, son of Richard and Debra Minea, graduated from Grapevine High School. He will major in computer engineering.

Jacqueline Victor of Austin, daughter of Mary and Brant Victor, graduated from Westlake High School. She has not yet declared a major.
