Chechen hostage crisis: 2 KU faculty resources for Russian politics, Chechen war

Raymond "Ray" C. Finch III, former U.S. Army Russian area specialist, lecturer with Applied English Center, (785) 864-4606; home (785) 843-7806

During his military service, Finch served as a Russian military analyst in the Foreign Military Office at Fort Leavenworth. Since leaving the military, Finch has continued to follow the most recent Chechen war (1999 to present) and has prepared briefings on the Chechen war for noon campus forums regularly offered by KU's Center for Russian and East European studies.

Erik Herron, Russian politics specialist, assistant professor of political science, (785) 864-9027; home 832-0593.

He researches the politics of the former Soviet Union, particularly political parties, elections, ethnic politics and information policy across Eastern Europe and the post-Soviet region. In March 2002, he served on an observation team from the U.S. State Department for the Ukraine elections.
