LAWRENCE -- Students from 10 Kansas high schools will be honored Thursday, Oct. 10, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.
The students, seniors from Ellis, Rooks, Russell and Trego counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at Hays High School, 2300 E. 13th, Hays.
Honorees are listed below.
Stephen McAllister, dean of the KU School of Law, will speak. Alumni Association representative Chris Lazzarino, managing editor of Kansas Alumni magazine, is in charge of award presentations.
The program will cost parents and alumni $8.50 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.
Fred and Shiela Brening, Hays, are the site and Ellis County coordinators. Tom and Cassie Nuckols, Plainville, will serve as the Rooks County coordinators. Nancy Lane, Russell, is the Russell County coordinator, and Jim and Kathy Cleland, WaKeeney, are the Trego County coordinators.
The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 82,874 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
