LAWRENCE -- A book signing by John Waters, director of the movies "Hairspray" and "Polyester," will highlight the grand re-opening of Oread Books next week at the University of Kansas.
The store, formerly known as Mount Oread Bookshop and located at the rear of the KU Bookstore, has moved to a new location but remains on Level 2 of the renovated Kansas Union.
Waters will be in the store from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8. A selection of his books and DVDs will be available. His appearance is co-sponsored by Student Union Activities, Liberty Hall Video and the KU Department of Theatre & Film. The event is free and open to the public.
The bookstore's grand re-opening week will take place Oct. 7 through 13 and will include storewide discounts and drawings for free books and other items.
Oread Books is a full-service independent bookseller that has served the KU community since 1969.
The new location features a spacious browsing area with an outstanding view of the KU campus. It is accessible from the Mississippi Street Parking Garage via a new bridge connecting Level 4 of the garage to Level 2 of the Kansas Union.
