LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas is adding $7,492 to the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund, bringing KU's total contribution to $47,671.83. The fund, which is co-chaired by former Sen. Bob Dole and former President Bill Clinton, provides educational assistance for family members of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Dole and Clinton earlier this month announced the scholarship fund had reached $100 million.
The university's additional contribution came from a final accounting of "Fighting Jayhawk" T-shirts KU sold this past year, with proceeds from the $10 T-shirts designated for the scholarship fund.
In June, KU Executive Vice Chancellor for University Relations Janet Murguia presented a check for $40,179.83 to Dole in Washington, D.C.
