KU to honor Douglas, Jefferson, and Leavenworth county high school seniors

LAWRENCE -- Students from 17 Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Sept. 25, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Douglas, Jefferson and Leavenworth counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 7 p.m. dinner program at the Lied Center, 1600 Stewart Drive.

Honorees are listed below.

John Stephens, professor of voice, will speak. Alumni Association representative Sheila Murphy Immel, senior vice president for membership development, is in charge of award presentations.

The program is free for all attendees. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Karen Van Blaricum, Lawrence, is the site coordinator. Teresa Dillon, David Johnston and Rita Spradlin, Lawrence, are the Douglas County coordinators. Cynthia C. Lewis, Lecompton, is the Jefferson County coordinator, and Tom Throne, Lansing, and Bianca Elliott, Linwood, are the Leavenworth County coordinators.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 82,874 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
