KU to honor seniors from 8 Sumner County high schools in Wellington

LAWRENCE -- Students from eight Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Sept. 18, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Sumner County, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at the Raymond Frye Complex, 320 N. Jefferson, Wellington.

Honorees are listed below.

Jerry Bailey, director of the Institute for the KU Educational Research and Public Service, will speak. Alumni Association representative Donna Neuner, director of membership services, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $13 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

David Carr, Wellington, is the site coordinator. Cathy Mitchell, Wellington, is the reservations and facilities coordinator.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 82,874 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
