LAWRENCE -- It will be a night of "April foolishness" when "Right Between the Ears," the award-winning sketch comedy show produced by Kansas Public Radio, is performed at 5 and 8 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Liberty Hall, 642 Massachusetts St.
Still in preparation at press time, the April edition of "Right Between the Ears" will include numerous sketches related to the war in Iraq, with takeoffs on the media's round-the-clock coverage and President George Bush's handling of the war, plus episodes of "Baywatch: Baghdad" and "Saddam Hussein, Master of Evil." Also planned: Former Vice President Al Gore hosts his own radio talk show; Barbie and Ken deal with menopause; plus commercial spoofs, satirical songs and new episodes of "Blimp Commandoes" and "The Legion of Stupid Heroes."
Tickets for "Right Between the Ears" are $12 for cabaret seats and $10 for balcony seats. Tickets are on sale now at Liberty Hall and Ticketmaster outlets. Credit card orders may be placed at www.ticketmaster.com/ or (816) 931-3330.
The 8 p.m. show will be broadcast live on KPR stations and on the World Wide Web at kpr.ku.edu.
"Right Between the Ears" recently received a Golden Reel Award for Best Music/ Entertainment Show (Local) from the National Federation of Community Broadcasters. In the past year, the series has received numerous prizes, including a Crystal Award of Excellence (for Best Writing/Humor) from the Communicator Awards, a Silver Microphone Award (for Best Audio Program/Entertainment) and a Silver World Medal (for Best Writing) from the New York Festivals.
