KU to honor seniors from 18 northwestern Kansas high schools

LAWRENCE -- Students from 18 Kansas high schools will be honored Tuesday, April 22, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The seniors from Cheyenne, Decatur, Gove, Logan, Rawlins, Sheridan, Sherman, Thomas and Wallace counties will meet for a 6:30 p.m. dinner reception where students will be named Kansas Honor Scholars. The program is held at the Gateway, 1 Morgan Drive, Oberlin.

Honorees are listed below.

Ann Cudd, professor of philosophy and director of women's studies, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Carolyn Barnes, director of the Kansas Honors Program, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $10 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Kurt Vollersten, Oberlin, is the site and Decatur County coordinator. Mike and Brenda Day, St. Francis, are the Cheyenne County coordinators. Wade Park, Oakley, is the Gove, Logan and Sheridan counties coordinator. Charles and Connie Peckham, Atwood, are the Rawlins County coordinators. Sharon Steele, Colby, is the Thomas and Wallace counties coordinator. Perry and Janet Warren, Goodland, are the Sherman County coordinators.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 85,600 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes
