LAWRENCE -- The winners of the 47th Snyder Book Collecting Contest will be honored in a ceremony at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in Oread Books on Level 2 of the Kansas Union at the University of Kansas. Stella Bentley, dean of libraries, will host the event. The public is invited.
The contest is open to all KU students and includes both undergraduate and graduate divisions. Four finalists have been selected in each division:
Undergraduate division
Sarah Lafferty, Lawrence, senior in history, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lafferty; Free State High School graduate
Amy R. Miller, Lawrence, senior in art history; Lawrence High School graduate
Jason Sachse, Leavenworth, sophomore in theatre and film, son of Herman Sachse; Pleasant Ridge High School graduate
Jennifer Sweeton, Parkville, Mo., senior in psychology and French, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Sweeton
Graduate division
Adrienne Harris Boggess, Lawrence, doctoral student in Slavic languages and literatures, daughter of Robert and Aileen Shocklee, Carmel, Ind.
Joel Boggess, Lawrence, master's degree student in business administration, son of John Boggess, West Lafayette, Ind.
Stylianos Chatzimanolis, Iraklio, Crete, Greece, doctoral student in entomology
Amy M. Fowler, Shawnee, doctoral student in art history; Shawnee Mission North High School graduate
The winner of each division will receive a $600 prize and a $100 gift certificate from the KU Bookstores. Second-place winners will receive a $400 prize and a $50 gift certificate. Honorable mention winners will receive a $100 prize and a $25 gift certificate.
Elizabeth M. Snyder of Kansas City, Mo., is the contest benefactor through a fund administered by the KU Endowment Association.
Contest entries reflect a wide range of literary tastes and intellectual interests. A sampling of titles from this year's finalists include: "Humanitarians Cry Foul: Literature Published in the Wake of the Congo Reform Movement," "Personal Histories of World War II," "Entomological Literature with a Special Reference to Beetles" and "Revolutionary Writing from an Ever-Expanding Bookshelf."

The finalists' collections will be on display at Oread Books during the awards ceremony and reception. First- and second-place winners' collections will be on display there until May 9.
