LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas recently recognized outstanding female students, faculty and alumnae who enriched and improved the campus community at the annual Women's Recognition Program.
The KU Commission on the Status of Women and the Emily Taylor Women's Resource Center at KU sponsored the event. Julie A. Robinson, a U.S. district judge, was the keynote speaker.
Five women were inducted into the KU Women's Hall of Fame: Joyce Castle, professor of music and dance; Mary Lee Hummert, interim vice provost for the office of student support; Martha Langley, financial director for Hilltop Child Development Center; Toni-Marie Montgomery, dean of fine arts; and Cora Lee Beers Price, former assistant professor of classics.
In addition to the hall of fame inductions, one staff member and two educators received recognition at the program. Katherine Pryor received the Outstanding Woman Staff Member award. Elizabeth Asiedu and Adrianne Kunkel received Outstanding Woman Educator awards.
Student award categories recognized outstanding achievement as an international woman, nontraditional student, athlete, leader, student in partnership and student in community service. Eight students received awards at the program.

Lea Burgess Carland, senior in women's studies, daughter of Robin Burgess; Lawrence High School graduate; Outstanding Woman Student in Community Service.

Jessica St. Clair, Valley Center, senior in psychology and in American studies, daughter of Jeff and Linda St. Clair; Valley Center High School graduate; Outstanding Woman Student in Partnership.
From Wichita
Aramis Watson, senior in psychology; Wichita High School North graduate; Outstanding Woman Student in Leadership.

Marian Hukle, graduate student in mathematics, daughter of George W. Hukle; Oxnard High School graduate; Outstanding Nontraditional Woman Student.
