KU Graduate School to present public lecture on bioethics April 29

LAWRENCE -- The Graduate School at the University of Kansas will host a public lecture on "The Role of Social Science and Scientific Research in Legal Decision Making" as part of its inaugural Graduate School Alumni Days activities.

Presenters include Kansas Supreme Court Justice Robert L. Gernon; Milton Diamond, professor of anatomy and reproductive biology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and director of the Pacific Center for Sex and Society; and Charlene Muehlenhard, professor of psychology and women's studies at KU.

The lecture will focus on the way judges use academic research in writing legal opinions. Diamond will emphasize his work as a cited source and as an expert witness in cases related to gender and bioethics research. Diamond's research has been cited in cases in Kansas.

Diamond received his Ph.D. in anatomy with a minor in psychology from KU in 1962.

Diamond also will present a brown bag workshop on bioethics and his research from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in Alcove E in the Kansas Union.
