LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas chapter of Phi Kappa Phi honor society recently initiated more than 170 new student members.
Phi Kappa Phi, an interdisciplinary academic organization established in 1897, is one of the most exclusive national honor societies. Only the top 10 percent of graduate students, top 7 percent of seniors and top 4 percent of juniors with more than 72 credit hours are invited to join.
Two KU faculty members and U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, a KU alumnus, also were initiated into the KU chapter. Diana Carlin, dean of the graduate school and international programs, and Donald Stull, professor of anthropology, are the new faculty members.
Moore also gave the keynote address at the Dec. 2 ceremony in Woodruff Auditorium at the Kansas Union.
The KU chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, established in 1975, includes the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and all the schools of the university. The chapter is one of 285 at colleges and universities in the United States, Puerto Rico and the Philippines.
New initiates received a certificate of membership and a key, tie tack or pin.
