LAWRENCE -- The Lied Center of Kansas Family Series and World Series and Hill˙s Pet Nutrition present Native American songwriter, composer and singer Joanne Shenandoah at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13.
Shenandoah has drawn upon her rich heritage in establishing a reputation as a foremost Native recording artists. Her original compositions, combined with a striking voice, enable her to embellish the ancient songs of the Iroquois using a blend of traditional and contemporary instrumentation. From traditional chants to contemporary ballads about Native ways, her music has been described as an emotional experience, a "Native American trance."
A member of the Wolf Clan, Oneida Nation, Haudenosaunee (Six Nations Iroquois) Confederacy, Shenandoah has won multiple Native American Music Awards and also is a nominee for the first Grammy Award for Best Native Recording. She lives in Oneida-Iroquois Territory in central New York.

Noon-1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13: Lecture/lunch with Lawrence professional women˙s organizations, Haskell Indian Nations University.
