KU to honor high school seniors from SW Kansas at Dodge City on Feb. 19

LAWRENCE -- Students from 18 Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Feb. 19, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Clark, Comanche, Ford, Gray, Hodgeman, Kiowa, Meade and Ness counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at Silver Spur Convention Center, 1510 W. Wyatt Earp, Dodge City.

Honorees are listed below.

Barbara Anthony-Twarog, professor of physics and astronomy, will speak. Alumni Association representative Carolyn Barnes, director of the Kansas Honors Program, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $12 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Melaney Vogel, Dodge City, serves as the site and Ford County coordinator. Robert and Sally McNickle, Ashland, are the Clark County coordinators. Liz Ballard, Haviland, is the Comache and Kiowa counties coordinator. Philip and Patricia Ridenour, Cimarron, are the Gray County coordinators. Mary Joanne Sorem, Jetmore, is the Hodgeman County coordinator. Lynn Chance, Fowler, is the Meade County coordinator. John P. Clark, Ness City, is the Ness County coordinator.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 85,600 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
